Mosque is the center of activities of Muslims and all Muslims must have connection with the mosque. As a Muslim, we should try to follow the ways of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w and similarly our Mosque activities should be like the activities of the Mosque of the Prophet at the time of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. The heart of our communities is the Mosque and what the Mosque’s activities are will determine the condition of our communities. Any government that wants to establish Islam as a way of life among its citizens must concentrate in making the Mosques’ activities similar to the activities at the times of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.
All Muslim leaders should follow what the Prophet s.a.w did and how he did it, when he reached Medinah. When the Prophet s.a.w reached Medinah, he immediately built the Mosque, he lived beside the Mosque, he started the amals of the Mosque and he asked all the Sahabah to do the amals of the Mosque like him. The Prophet Mosque became the center of activities and the Sahabah took turn to come to the Mosque and participated in all the amals of the Mosque. Because of participating in the amals of the Mosque the iman and the amals of the Sahabah became stronger and stronger day by day. Initially the Sahabah is like the candles but later on, they became like the stars and when the Sahabah moved around the world they moved with their lights and they became the source of guidance of other people.
The most important amal in the Mosque of the Prophet s.a.w is the amal of dakwah and the amal of reminding the Muslims about Allah and the orders of Allah. Dakwah is the amal of inviting the non-Muslims to accept and to recite the Great Kalimah, there is no God except Allah and Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah.
The second important amal in the Mosques of the Prophet is the amals of ibadah such as to perform solat with Jemaah, to perform non-obligatory solat, to read the Quran and to do zikir. The third most important amal in the Mosques of Prophet is the amal of learning and teaching about the orders of Allah.
The fourth important amal in the Mosque of the Prophet is the amal of entertaining guests that come to the Prophet s.a.w Mosque and that includes, providing the guest with food, place to sleep and to give them present when they return.
In comparison with our present day Mosques, we are not doing what the Prophet s.a.w and the Sahabah used to do in the Prophet’s Mosque. Only few of our Mosques have the amal of five times congregational prayers while most of our Mosques have only three or two solat with congregation while the rest of the times the Mosques are without any activities. Only recently, many Mosques have lectures conducted by some religious scholars between solat Maghrib and Isyak. It is actually a lecture but regarded as majlis of learning and teaching. Other than these amals, our Mosques usually remain empty from amals. Nearly all of our Mosques are devoid of the daily amal of dakwah and the amal of reminding Muslims about Allah and the orders of Allah.
Every Muslims are responsible to establish the amals of the Mosques. We do not have to wait for the imam or the ustaz to start the amals of the Mosques then only we will do the amals of the Mosques. Every Muslim is capable of doing all the amals of the Mosques. When we do the work of dakwah and the work of reminding the Muslims, Allah’s help is with us. When Allah’s help is with us, we can do the work of dakwah and all the amals of the Mosques. The most important amal of the Mosques to be established is the amal of dakwah and the amal of reminding the Muslims about Allah and the orders of Allah.
Our Mosques are not active with twenty-four hours amals in a day because we have not established the amal of dakwah to non-Muslims and the amals of reminding Muslims about Allah and the orders of Allah. Amal of dakwah and the amals of reminding the Muslims are very great amals. When these great amals established in our Mosques, all other amals of the Mosques are also established. In order to establish the amals of the Mosques, first, we have to decide to give times to the Mosques. Every Muslims should decide to give times to the Mosques, minimum two hours and thirty minutes every day. One hour, allocated to performing five times solat with congregation, forty-five minutes to one hour allocated to dakwah and reminding the Muslims and the balance thirty minutes to the amal of teaching and learning about the orders of Allah.
When we want to do the work of dakwah and the work of reminding the Muslims we must go to the Mosque. In the Mosque, before we go out to do the work of dakwah and reminding the Muslims, we must do the amals of reminding each other about the meaning of the Great Kalimah.
We form groups and each group consists of two or three persons and in case there is no other person to do it except you, you can do the work alone. Each one must remind the others about the meaning of the Kalimah. Each person will speak something like this, because it is an order of Allah and to please Allah I would like to remind my brothers and myself that there is no God except Allah. There is no one that can do harm or give benefit except Allah. There is no one that can give honor or disgrace except Allah. There is no one that can give food and satisfy my hunger except Allah. Oh Allah, put these great Kalimah into our heart. When everyone in the group has done the work of reminding each other about the meaning of the Kalimah, then one person from among the group will make prayer, asking Allah to give guidance to non-Muslim to enter Islam and the Muslims to do the work of the Prophet s.a.w.
After making prayer, the group may proceed to any lane or road in the locality and visit Muslims as well as non-Muslims’ houses. The group must visit every house and talk only to the male members of the house. They must not miss any house even empty one. In case the house is empty, you should make prayer in front of the house.
What you should speak when you meet Muslims and what you should speak when you meet non-Muslims are already explained in my last articles on dakwah on non-Muslims and the work of reminding Muslims. After you have completed about forty-five minutes, visiting times you may decide to go back to the Mosque. After you have reached the Mosque, all of you must sit in a group and again do the work of reminding each other about the meaning of the Kalimah and at the end of the session, one person from among you, must make prayer, asking Allah for forgiveness and acceptance.
In case we established the amal of dakwah to non-Muslims and the amals of reminding the Muslims about Allah and the orders of Allah in our Mosques, a time will come when many Muslims will give times to the Mosque at least two hours and thirty minutes every day and many non- Muslims convert to Muslims. When many Muslims in our locality decide to give times every day to the Mosque then our Mosque will be alive with activities twenty-four hours in a day like the Prophet’s Mosque during the time of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.
